Massage ‘N Motion Therapeutics |

Helping you nurture your body back to comfort and joy. |

Massage Therapy My primary focus is on therapeutic massage. I really enjoy giving a massage and each one is always unique, tailored to your needs. It can be more relaxing, more rejuvenating or it can be more physically healing. Some people fall asleep and allow their body to deeply rest, while others remain wide-awake, wanting to experience the feeling of touch directly. |

No matter what type of therapy you desire, I strive to give you my best massage every time. My technique is primarily eclectic combining elements of Swedish Massage, Medical Gymnastics and Orthopedic Massage.
Swedish Massage Swedish massage is the relaxing technique that most people have heard of and includes kneading the tissues like bread dough. The other elements of Swedish that I use most include fulling, which is a stretching of the tissues, wringing which twists the tissues like you might wring out water from a towel and raking, which is a very relaxing finger rake.
Medical Gymnastics Medical gymnastics is a big part of what I like to teach. I really want people to heal and that means the client must take control of their own wellness. Medical gymnastics is the “motion” part of my practice and I hope that if clients learn anything, it is how to put the body through its full range of motion, so we can avoid the “rust” that settles into our joints, which are like the hinges of a door. We have to open and close all of our doors, to avoid the rust.
Orhthopedic Massage Orthopedic massage is my challenge and what keeps me ever fascinated about the human body. There are over 600 muscles in our bodies and it is an ever learning experience to find ways to heal them all. The goal of orthopedic massage is to help “normalize” the musculoskeletal body so that healing takes place, rather than just symptomatic relief. I use a variety of techniques depending where on the body I am working and the type of pain had.
Deep tissue is not necessarily synonymous with deep pressure, but the goal is to separate the muscles that are stuck together.
Trigger point therapy is used when I find knots in the muscles and need to work them out with direct pressure. It is a very localized technique.
Muscle energy technique is used frequently when you have sharp pains, say in your shoulder joint, and the goal is to stretch the muscle while contracted which will realign collagen fibers.
Wave mobilization is a Tai Chi based technique to relax and stretch the muscles by rocking the muscles in a wavelike motion.
Pin and stretch is used to hold a part of the muscles in place while stretching the rest.
Compression combined with fulling is a deep pressure massage used especially on areas that are often extremely tight, such as the hips and legs. |

Wellness and Mind-Body-Spirit Consultations The mind-body-spirit connection is very important to understand. It is complicated and just as soon as we think we know what it means, we have to start all over again. It is like the layers of an onion, pealing away just enough each time to expose a whole new onion. I’m happy to sit with you and help you get it, at least to my own level of understanding. ‘
I regularly study the mind-body-spirit and its ties to the universe as a matter of fascination and its impact on my life. I study the spiritual texts from Zen, the Tao de Ching, the Holy Bible, Native American teachings and I study physics and the workings of the universe. I read the Masters and put their teaching into practice, fine tuning as I age and experience. I have so much more to grow myself, and I am ever on a road to wellness, but I am happy to share what wisdom I do have with you.
Wellness is simple, yet the emotions we have to endure on the journey to returning to balance can be hard to sit back and feel. Those feelings are spread throughout the body and change its structure. Anxiety can result in tension, depression can result in muscle weakness.
Our minds change our body. Our spirits can change our mind. Consciousness occurs when spirit connects with body. To have the emotions we desire, we will have to change our minds, which requires a rise in consciousness. Nobody wants to be less conscious than they are. But we rarely recognize that we can be even more conscious than we currently are.
I offer consultations to those seeking balance in their lives. I help people understand the mind, body and spirit connection. I help with finding ways to improve our mind, our ego, to regain control of our lives and emotion. It takes perseverance. But a rise in consciousness is a priceless gift and I hope I can share that with you. |
